A.A.C. presents its sixth annual poetry festival, Poetic Notions, Friday, April 12, and Saturday, April 13. The festival aims to showcase poetry as an educational and economic tool to revitalize and empower communities.

The two-day event also will feature its first conference of engaging informational sessions. Must-attend events throughout the festival include the following:

Middle Georgia Youth Poetry Slam:

The second annual event will feature the dynamic voices of Middle Georgia’s finest high school poets. Free and open to the public, the slam showcases the talents of surrounding youth. The performances take place at 6 p.m. April 12 at Baldwin High School in Milledgeville.

Literacy and Community Engagement Conference:

This inaugural event is an opportunity to connect participants with successful community organizers, local educators and national performers who use poetry to inspire and educate.

The conference takes place from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in Magnolia Ballroom across from Georgia College’s front campus. The event will include informational sessions that cover how to integrate poetry as an educational tool for students; how to use poetry to stimulate sells at your business; and how to incorporate poetry into afterschool programs as an agent for community outreach. The conference registration is $25, including ticket and meal.

Poetry Performance Showcase:

The always-popular showcase highlights the talents of student poets and industry performers. The lively event will feature thought-provoking poems that tell political, comedic and tragic stories. The performances start at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in Magnolia Ballroom. Advance tickets: $5. At the door: $7.
